Exponents is a shortened way of saying a number times a certain value. In the example above you have provided, there is six 6s and that is not equal to 6 to the 5th power. It would be 6 to the 6th power.

No it isnt. The first one represents 3^6, but the second one is only 3^5. The exponent shows how many times the number should be multiplied.
