[tex]\bf \cfrac{24}{34}=\cfrac{4y+12}{85}\implies \cfrac{12}{17}=\cfrac{4y+12}{85}\implies 12(85)=(17)(4y+12) \\\\\\ 1020=(17)(4y+12)\implies \cfrac{1020}{17}=4y+12\implies 60=4y+12 \\\\\\ 48=4y\implies \cfrac{48}{4}=y\implies 12=y[/tex]

Multiply each side by 85
Then it becomes 24/35 x 85 = 4y +12
58.2857 -12 = 4y
46.2857/4 = y
Y = 11.57
